Waking up early certainly does have its perks. #sunrise, incredible #light and no winds for a smooth flight from O’ahu to topside #Molokai, then to the community of #Kalaupapa where Hansen’s Disease patients were once exiled away from their loved ones—unless their loved ones had the disease as well. Healthy people, usually family members, who chose to come and take care of loved ones with the disease, were known as kokua. There is some sadness still, however, the overall feelings are of love and respect within the close-knit #community. Kalaupapa is a beautiful place. Seems I just can’t get enough of #CentralPark. Wishing I’d been able to spend so much more time there to fully explore it. Well, it is what it is. Loved the two #arches that are a part of a bridge; the rock work was so beautiful and full of texture. I love that #CentralPark has all these “secret” spots that people can call their own until someone stumbles upon them. #perfectday on the #lake in #CentralPark.
This last #timessquare post is all about #people. So interesting to see so many different people from around the world gathered within so many blocks, all of us gazing at the #dazzling #billboards and watching other people. Such fun and maybe a little claustrophobic! I felt a little bad (and maybe laughed a bit) for the last man who was being instructed by his girlfriend/wife to take her picture while a constant flow of people walked between them. She was a cute little thing and he looked somewhat bossed around, holding her shopping bags while trying to take her pic. He was very patient though. Not sure if he ever took it or not. Poor guy; she’ll definitely keep him busy!
I finally got my camera back so I felt like going through the images on my memory card. Hint: I’ll be sharing some #NewYork moments for a while. Beaches at sunset will wait. Good news is my camera has been repaired (replaced the motherboard) and it’s now safe with me. 😁 As for this shot...#TimesSquare was a riot of vibrant colors and cars, and never ending swaths of people on the sidewalks taking pics (like me). Once I stopped walking and photographing, I enjoyed people watching. Selfies galore, couples taking pics of each other, people watching other people...all these individual moments colliding in a whirlpool of humanity. Lol. It was fun!
